Is a GoPro Hero 5 and Hero 6 waterproof without a case? YES!
Gone were the days were you needed a case to protect your GoPro from water and wet conditions. Both Hero 4 Silver and Black needed a waterproof case to go in water or else you risk a permanent damage to the camera.

But that’s not the case anymore with the new GoPro Hero 5 Session and Hero 5 Black that were both designed to be waterproof without a case. Their rugged and durable design offers both accidental drop and waterproof protection. However, all camera doors must be closed as a small water leak can damage the camera permanently and we don’t want that to happen.

How deep can I go?

Both Hero 5 cameras are waterproof down to 10meters (33feet) which is enough for most people, this will protect the camera from rain, an accidental drop in the water or just underwater shooting while snorkeling.

What if I want to go deeper?

For scuba divers or people who would like to shoot at deeper than 10 meters, an extra case is required and it’s called the Super Suit Housing. It’s only available for Hero 5 Black and Hero 6 Black and it can be used down to 60 meters or 196 feet!

No more worries

I believe that this is a really great enhancement on the Hero 5 cameras as there would be no need to worry about using the camera without a case in sudden wet conditions or having a leak in the waterproof case.

Sound enhanced, not muffled anymore!

Using a waterproof case used to muffle the sound on the Hero4 cameras, now that’s not a problem anymore with Hero 5 and 6!
